Harold Gauer and "The History" - Author captures Milwaukee bohemia
By John-David Morgan
Where nostalgia is dead, life becomes devalued. Milwaukee writer Harold Gauer has a vested interest in such ideas, having
self-published three books of local history and nostalgia gleaned from personal archives dubbed "The History."
But to Gauer, memories are their own social activists, possessing an ability to rate the here and now without rejecting it. In
the Gauer History, there is little in the way of events and circumstances that cannot be overcome, and the impossible seems
almost probable at any given moment.
